It is an accredited infectious disease laboratory offering round-the-clock microbiology and molecular diagnostics. Designed for speed, precision, and scale, the department plays a pivotal role in rapid pathogen detection and infection management. Our Microbiology division processes over 1,500 samples daily, while the molecular biology unit has a peak capacity exceeding 14,000 samples per day—demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Equipped with cutting-edge platforms including MALDI-TOF (Bruker) for rapid microbial identification, BD Phoenix M50 and Vitek 2 for precise species-level ID and antimicrobial susceptibility (MIC-based), BACTEC blood culture systems, Cobas 4800, Bio Fire Film Array (bioMérieux), and BD MAX multiplex PCR systems, ensuring accurate detection of a broad spectrum of pathogens within clinically relevant timeframes. The procedures are performed under stringent quality controls, with rapid turnaround times and expert clinical correlation. Our goal is to provide precise, actionable information to support infection control, outbreak management, and optimal patient care.

Comprehensive Clinical Services:

1. Syndromic Diagnosis & Clinical Consultations: Leveraging expert medical microbiologists and technologists, we integrate clinical context with advanced diagnostics to guide optimal testing and interpretation. Our syndromic approach supports the diagnosis of meningitis, pneumonia, sepsis, gastroenteritis, and joint infections using culture (aerobic, anaerobic, fungal), multiplex PCR panels, and MALDI-TOF.
2. Advanced Antimicrobial Testing: First- to third-line antimicrobial panels, MIC-based susceptibility testing, resistance gene detection, synergy testing, and breakpoint MIC analysis to support evidence-based treatment strategies.
3. Fungal Pathogen Identification: Complex fungal infections, including filamentous fungi and dermatophytes, are identified to the species level using MALDI-TOF and expert microscopy.
4. Genital and Reproductive Health: Our molecular diagnostic panel includes real-time PCR, multiplex PCR, and RT-PCR assays. We provide Nugent scoring, culture, FDA-approved HPV testing, comprehensive STD molecular panels, and molecular vaginal panels for accurate diagnosis of pathogens. Special immunology testing goes beyond routine serology and includes highly specialized assays such as autoimmune antibody panels (e.g., ANA, anti-dsDNA, ENA), allergy-specific IgE testing, immunoglobulin profiling, complement system analysis, and flow cytometry-based lymphocyte subset enumeration. These tests are critical for diagnosing autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and vasculitis, as well as primary and secondary immunodeficiencies.

We employ sensitive and specific methodologies including chemiluminescent immunoassays (CLIA), enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), immunoblotting, flow cytometry and multiplexing technologies enabling simultaneous measurement of multiple biomarkers from a single specimen, maximizing data yield while conserving sample volume and reagents.
